The Canon Pixma MG5320 wireless inkjet photo all-in-one printer has some pretty cool stuff like CD/DVD printing capability’s at a reasonable cost of $150, hitting a sweet spot at the consumer-oriented end of the color inkjet multifunction category. You don’t find many machines that have the ability to print on specially coated CDs or DVDs but the Pixma MG5320 can. There’s no on-machine storage for the caddy which is inconvenient and the disc-printing process involves a specific sequence of steps that can be confusing and it takes a few minutes to prepare itself to print. But if this is a feature that you have been looking for in a multifunction inkjet printer this machine could be for you.
Paper handling is very good for an MFP in this price range, it has a bottom drawer that holds up to 150 sheets of letter size plain paper, and a rear 150 sheet vertical tray that takes everything else. It has a duplexer which is automatic, and a 50 sheet output tray that opens automatically when you send a print job. The machine comes with USB and wireless connectivity, a USB/PicBridge port and slots for a multimedia Card, memory Stick and an SD Card.
Speeds are impressive for this type of machine, photo-printing speeds for snapshot size photos on letter size paper flew out a a rate of 3.3 pages per minute. Text speed was above average at 7.7 ppm and monochrome copy speed is good.
Ink cost on this machine is reasonable. There are four cartridges, black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Cost is $15 for the black and $14 each for the colors. A four color page cost about 13 cents a page.
So for the money this is a nice printer that has good features not found on other machines in this price range and a competent overall package. So if you’ve been looking for a printer that can print on CD/DVD’s this may be the machine for you.
